Turnaround medicine and virtual anatomy. There is a position of the Residents' Agreement on teaching anatomy
Published Nov. 14, 2023 11:06
Why anatomy?
It is the most important subject in the first year. Even if years later we do not remember the names of specific structures, familiarity with the human body and knowledge of its topography is the foundation of a doctor's knowledge. It is a specialized subject, requiring educated staff, adequate infrastructure and access to preparations. So if universities can't cope with providing an adequate level, can they be counted on to succeed with clinical subjects?
If a university has to hold classes 250 kilometers away in another city or bases education mostly on virtual tables, it is unfit to educate future generations of doctors. According to the OZZL Residents' Agreement, by allowing such a practice we are exposing Polish patients to doctors unprepared for the profession, thereby endangering their health and lives.
According to the Residents' Agreement, practical classes in anatomy must be taught:
- In prosectories adapted for teaching normal anatomy
- By qualified personnel who are involved in normal anatomy and know how to properly prepare slides for study
- using anatomical preparations of the human body, and aids such as virtual tables should only be used in addition.
Universities that do not meet these conditions are not prepared for and should not be running a medical faculty.
