Doubts about the quality and safety of medical education
The PNRL draws attention to reports that Kyiv Medical University may conduct medical studies in Poland according to the curriculum in force in Ukraine, with this example referring to the university's branch in Bytom. The Medical Council considers it unjustified to allow the training of physicians in Poland according to programs from non-EU countries, which may not correspond to the standards in force in our country. Students in these programs, although studying in Poland, obtain foreign diplomas that are not automatically recognized as authorizing them to practice medicine in Poland, and require additional nostrification.
Consequences for the future of the Polish health care system
The PNRL points out that conducting studies according to foreign programs without close supervision by domestic educational authorities carries with it a threat to the quality of education and thus patient safety. Studying medicine in Poland requires the involvement of qualified personnel, adequate teaching and clinical facilities, and using these resources for training in foreign programs reduces the efficiency of the domestic educational system. The increase in the number of nostrifications, especially from Polish citizens who have graduated from foreign programs, indicates a potential problem with the quality of supervision of the education process for future doctors.
Call for action and restoration of proper model of medical education
The Presidium of the Supreme Medical Council asks the Minister of Science to urgently examine this form of education, analyze its quality, and consider measures to ensure an adequate level of medical education. The PNRL stresses that the model of educating doctors according to foreign programs, without full compliance with Polish standards and supervision, is irresponsible and does not meet the requirements necessary to ensure patient safety and the quality of the Polish health care system.
