NIL: Postgraduate internship reform postponed by one year

Deputy Minister of Health, Piotr Bromber, in a letter to the NRL, informed that the date of entry into force of the new solutions regarding the postgraduate internship of doctors and dentists, which are introduced by the Act of July 16, 2020 Amending the Act on the Professions of Doctor and Dentist and Certain Other acts, will be moved by one year, i.e. from January 1, 2022 to January 1, 2023. This is related to the appointment of two new Teams: for the development of proposals for changes in the standards of education preparing for the profession of a doctor and dentist, and for for the development of proposals for legal and organizational solutions regulating the work of students of the medical, medical and dental faculties in entities performing medical activities - "Work for a student".
The results of the teams' work are to decide whether it is possible to better use the time of studies in medicine and dentistry, especially the last year, to practice professional activities in direct contact with the patient.
The provisions on postponing the entry into force of new solutions regarding postgraduate internship for doctors and dentists were adopted by the Sejm in the Act of December 2, 2021 on amending the Civil Code, the Code of Civil Procedure and some other acts, signed by President of the Republic of Poland on December 27, 2021 and published in the Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland on December 29, 2021, item 2459.
Piotr Bromber explains that postponing the entry into force of the postgraduate internship reform was deemed necessary, as the time-consuming and costly implementation of new solutions may turn out to be insufficient due to the recommendations prepared by the above-mentioned Teams.
As the deputy minister assures, the Ministry of Health will make every effort to ensure that the work on changing the concept of pre-graduate and postgraduate education takes into account the opinions of relevant experts, and the subsequent implementation of these changes was flexible and smooth, while maintaining the quality of education of doctors and dentists.
