Position of the Main Board of the Anesthesiologists Trade Union on the draft regulation of the Minister of Health on the professional skills of a doctor and dentist of August 9, 2022
The Anesthesiologists Trade Union in the presented draft regulation criticizes the introduction of the skill called "safe sedation in short procedures" (professional skill code - 003), which will be available to doctors with the title of specialist or 2nd degree specialist in the areas of: internal diseases, general surgery, paediatrics , gastroenterology, oncological surgery, urology, pediatric surgery, radiology and imaging diagnostics and pulmonology.
Currently in Poland, in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation of the Minister of Health of 16 December 2016 on the organizational standard of healthcare in the field of anesthesiology and intensive care, medical procedures, including sedation and analgesia, may be performed by medical personnel with strictly defined competences in the field of anaesthesiology. and intensive care.
ZG ZZA believes that introducing the possibility of sedation by physicians other than specialists in the field of anaesthesiology and intensive therapy will reduce the health safety of patients undergoing sedation, in particular significantly increasing the risk of loss of health and life.
In addition, on the basis of the maps of health needs developed by the minister of health, it follows from the analysis of the so-called generational convertibility indicators that by the end of 2024, 2,265 internists, 712 surgeons, and 939 paediatricians will be employed by the health care system, while 352 specialists in the field of anaesthesiology and intensive care will be added to the healthcare system. .

Currently, due to staff shortages in Poland, the activities of internal medicine, surgical and pediatric departments are suspended in many hospitals, therefore ZG ZZA believes that from the point of view of the state's health policy, it is necessary to ensure optimal conditions for the above-mentioned specialists for further work in hospital departments.

The Anesthesiologists Trade Union believes that the simplest solution to increase the availability of patients to "safe sedation in short procedures" is to raise the National Health Fund's valuation of these procedures currently performed by specialists in the field of anaesthesiology and intensive care.
Accordingly, ZG ZZA requests that the skill called "safe sedation in short treatments" (professional skill code - 003) from the draft regulation be deleted.
