Katarzyna Romanowska-Próchnicka:

  • Lupus is a very complicated autoimmune disease that primarily affects women of reproductive age.
  • The severe form of the disease causes high involvement of the health care system.
  • The approach to lupus should be multidirectional, both in the medical and systemic aspects.
  • Over time, 70% of lupus patients have a moderate to severe course, forcing a change in medication.
  • Drugs in lupus are administered individually, depending on organ involvement.
  • Of the sixteen drugs available, only three are reimbursed at pharmacies.
  • There are no treatment options in Poland, no biological therapy.
  • There is a great deal of room to expand reimbursement in the aspect of systemic lupus erythematosus.
  • More drugs should enter the drug program. If access to drugs is not nationwide, it will limit access to modern therapies.
