- We should first address the problems of the environment, the solution of which requires parliamentary work. The most urgent challenges concern adults with autism and intellectual disabilities," said Malgorzata Rybicka, chairwoman of the Autism-Poland Agreement, during the first meeting of the Parliamentary Group on Autism. The work of this parliamentary group will be led by MP Jacek Karnowski.

- In particular, it is necessary to take care of those who need significant support, which the support system does not take into account. For them, the system's offer in the form of day and 24-hour facilities is most often unavailable," noted Malgorzata Rybicka.
As the chairwoman of the Autism-Poland Agreement stressed, in many counties there are no such facilities, and even if there are, people with autism are not admitted to community self-help homes or vocational activity centers. If, on the other hand, they are admitted, they are most often later removed from the list.
- The only statutorily guaranteed offer from the state is nursing homes, which are not a good place to live for anyone, and for autistic people in particular," said Malgorzata Rybicka.
The first and basic demand, therefore, is to build a support system for autistic people with intellectual disabilities.
- We are concerned with day and 24-hour facilities. We want to introduce small forms of housing with individual support, guaranteed by the law. We need intimate places with organization of space that takes into account the needs of people on the spectrum," she pointed out.
During the meeting, the chairman of the group was elected. He is MP Jacek Karnowski.
