The Supreme Medical Council has issued an appeal to Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Holownia for the candidacy of Dr. Pawel Kukiz-Szczucinski for the position of Children's Ombudsman. As the local government argues, in an era of crisis in child and adolescent psychiatry, such a function should be performed by a psychiatrist.

"The medical self-government recognizes the growing crisis in child and adolescent psychiatry. The worsening neglect and its remediation should be a priority of the Children's Advocate. The person in this position should be a psychiatrist, a practicing physician with experience in, among other things, working in a psychiatric clinic," reads a post on the Supreme Medical Council's profile on X (formerly Twitter).
The Chamber has therefore submitted the candidacy of doctor Pawel Kukiz-Szczucinski to the Speaker of the Polish Parliament, Szymon Holownia.
- In our opinion, he is a valuable expert, and his qualifications correspond not only to the responsibility carried by the institution of the Ombudsman for Children, but also to the needs of Polish child and adolescent psychiatry. He has the full support of the medical self-government," notes Damian Patecki, chairman of the NRL's Medical Education Committee.
"Dr. Pawel Kukiz-Szczuczynski proves by his actions that he is capable of risking his own life in defense of children. His competence in the field of children's mental health care, combined with his personal courage, make him, in the opinion of the medical self-government, the right candidate to fight for the health and safety of our children with all his dedication. Polish children deserve to have their interests represented by a practitioner who has been working with children on a daily basis for many years," reads the appeal of the Presidium of the NRL to Szymon Holownia.
Doctor Pawel Kukiz - Szczucinski is a specialist in psychiatry working in a mental health clinic for children, as well as in a children's hospital ward. He has participated in numerous international medical humanitarian missions. In recent years, among others, he was a participant in the first mission of Polish doctors in Lombardy (2020), providing assistance to victims of COVID - 19, and since 2022 he has been involved in the evacuation of children with cancer from Ukraine, and children from the frontline zone.
