Advances in breast cancer treatment must go hand in hand with modern rehabilitation
Published June 7, 2023 15:00

Currently used modern methods and surgical techniques as a result of breast diseases also require a modern approach and management in the area of rehabilitation of the patient, in order to achieve full mobility of the limb as soon as possible, but also psychophysical fitness, or to get rid of pain, which is quite a challenge, not only for the patient himself, but also for the rehabilitator or physiotherapist.
The OmeReh vortal will be a helpful tool in the home setting for patients who wait in line to see a physical therapist for months while remaining lost in the system, without professional support. It is also often the case that the patient cannot afford to travel to the center where rehabilitation takes place. We want to respond, at least a little, to this need and secure it, so as not to lead to social exclusions related to loss of fitness as a result of complications after surgery for cancer - breast cancer.
Voltal is designed to suggest how to safely go through the entire dedicated set of exercises, which will be unveiled in stages. What this means for the patient is that step by step, there will be new videos, new ranges to increase the intensity and time of the exercises, in order for the patient to get back to his pre-sickness fitness at a pace that suits him.
In case of any doubts arising from the use of the vortal, the patient will be able to consult an expert at the hotline indicated for this purpose.
We have been preparing for this project for years, based on our own patient experience, but also as a result of daily work with patients at CWoRP. Two shooting days on a professional film set are behind us, with the participation of prominent specialists in oncological surgery, experienced physiotherapists and the main characters, female patients, who have experience with breast cancer treatment and the modern surgical techniques used in their case. So they are living proof affecting the authenticity and safety of the message.
In August, the development work will be completed and we will start recruiting patients for the testing phase of the project. So, we encourage you to follow our activities in this area and join the OmeaReh group on FB to stay abreast of news in such an important topic as rehabilitation.
The project is implemented by the OmeaLife Foundation with a grant from the Active Citizens - National Fund program funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA Funds.
