3 reasons for the high number of deaths according to Adam Niedzielski - Header image

The Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, when asked why the number of deaths infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is so high in Poland - another over seven hundred were recorded on Thursday - pointed to three, in his opinion, the most important causes of the tragic statistics.

- It is not that there is one clear cause that can be blamed for a large number of deaths from COVID-19 - said Niedzielski during a conference on hospital reform. On Thursday, the Ministry of Health informed about 709 deaths, the day before there were almost 800 deaths.

- That's the whole catalog of reasons: one of the most important is the relatively low percentage of vaccination in our population, which is 50 percent. for the entire population, and 60 percent. in the adult population - enumerated Niedzielski. - Unfortunately, these are slightly smaller parameters than in Europe. Vaccination, while perhaps not so effective in protecting against the infection itself, is very effective when it comes to protection against the most severe ailments related to COVID, emphasized the head of the health ministry, who, answering journalists' questions, assured that the government he did everything to prevent Poles from vaccinating. He has provided a sufficient number of doses, has prepared a convenient vaccination registration system, is running an information campaign focused on communicating reliable facts about the effectiveness and safety of vaccinations.

Niedzielski also pointed out that out of over seven hundred deaths reported on Thursday, over five hundred are deaths of unvaccinated people. - Of the rest, approx. 70 percent. are people with multiple diseases. Vaccination provides sixty times greater protection against death, he emphasized.

The second cause of high death rates from COVID-19, according to the head of the ministry of health, are delays in showing up to the hospital. - Patients show up too late, and Delta proves to be more difficult to treat than the previous variants, as the time from infection to collapse has been reduced from two weeks to a week. We have less time to identify the infection with the test and apply the treatment - said the minister. The ministry wants to counteract the effects of late admission of patients to hospitals with pulse oximeters given to people over 55 who are infected with SARS-CoV-2.

- The third element is, unfortunately, the low level of health of the population, related to the lifestyle, proper nutrition, and prevention. Years of neglect in prevention are responsible for the lower level of health, said Niedzielski. According to the Minister of Health, the situation is to be improved by the Prevention 40+ program. - There was no such program before - emphasized the head of the Ministry of Health.
