By the decision of Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna, Daniel Rutkowski, the former vice president of the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tarification, became the new president of the Agency.
After then-Health Minister Katherine Sójka dismissed Roman Topor-Wise in mid-November last year, the competition was successfully resolved in 3 attempts after several months.
The Agency for Health Technology Assessment was established in 2005, as a state-owned agency. Its task was to evaluate medical procedures, with a particular focus on medical procedures that are the subject of health care contracts.
Pursuant to the Law of July 22, 2014 amending the Law on publicly financed health care services as of January 1, 2015, the Agency was given further tasks regarding the tarification of health care services.
An amendment to the law has changed the name of the Agency for Health Technology Assessment to the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tarification (AOTMiT). The organizational structure of the Agency has also been changed to reflect two main areas of activity: medical technology assessment and valuation of guaranteed benefits.
In June 2019, in connection with the amendment of the Law on Benefits, the Agency was given a new statutory task to initiate, support and conduct analysis and scientific research and development work in the field of health technology assessment, tariffing of benefits, and preparation of assessments of assumptions for the implementation of health care services.
Through subsequent amendments to legislation, the scope of the Agency's tasks and its powers have been further expanded within the two areas indicated above.
