Nearly 300,000 scheduled appointments at city clinics and hospitals in Warsaw last year did not take place because patients did not show up for them, reports the capital's City Hall. As a result, waiting times to see a doctor are getting longer. Meanwhile, all it takes is one phone call to unlock a busy appointment.

- We want to make the residents and citizens of Warsaw aware of the scale. 300,000 missed appointments is just the data from our medical entities from last year, which includes 9 city hospitals and a network of clinics. We hope that thanks to the campaign and making residents aware of the enormity of the scale of missed appointments, people who can't come to a scheduled consultation will cancel it, and another patient will be able to use that appointment," stresses Renata Kaznowska, deputy mayor of Warsaw.

In 2022, a total of 297,274 appointments were not canceled at the city's outpatient clinics and hospitals for outpatient specialized care, dental treatment, psychiatric care or inpatient rehabilitation. More than 35,000 appointments were missed for consultations at hospital outpatient clinics, and nearly 260,000 were missed appointments at city clinics throughout Warsaw.

The Warsaw City Hall, in an effort to combat the phenomenon of patients not cancelling appointments, is launching a campaign under the slogan "Don't do unto others what is unkind to you" The information campaign will last for the next four weeks - spots will be broadcast in public transportation.
