Changes in the composition of the National Council for Cardiology

Prof. Janina Stępińska, director of the National Institute of Cardiology, has been appointed by the Minister of Health as Chairwoman of the National Council for Cardiology. She succeeded Prof. Tomasz Hryniewiecki, who had held the position since 2021.

By an order dated March 26, 2024, amending the order on the establishment of the National Council for Cardiology, changes were made to the composition of the National Council for Cardiology.

The new composition of the Council:

  • Chairman of the Council - Prof. Janina Stępińska, MD, Director of the Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski National Institute of Cardiology - National Research Institute;
  • Prof. Grazyna Brzezinska-Rajszys, MD, head of the Cardiovascular Interventions Laboratory, Institute "Pomnik - Children's Health Center,
  • Agnieszka Kapłon-Cieślicka, MD, PhD, 1st Department of Cardiology, Warsaw Medical University,
  • Jaroslaw Cyrynger, President of the Prof. Zbigniew Religa Heart Transplant Association,
  • Prof. Mariusz Gąsior, MD, Head of the III Department of Clinical Cardiology at the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases, Silesian Medical University,
  • Prof. Marcin Gruchała, MD, Rector of the Medical University of Gdansk,
  • Prof. Andrzej Januszewicz, MD, National Consultant for Hypertensiology, Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski National Institute of Cardiology - National Research Institute,
  • Prof. Przemysław Mitkowski, MD, representative of the Polish Society of Cardiology, Karol Marcinkowski Medical University in Poznań,
  • Prof. Piotr Ponikowski, MD, representative of the Polish Cardiac Society, Rector of the Piastów Śląskich Medical University in Wroclaw,
  • Prof. Piotr Pruszczyk, MD, Pro Rector for Science, Warsaw Medical University,
  • Professor Piotr Suwalski, Director of the National Medical Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration,
  • Prof. dr. hab. n. med. and n. o zdr. Anna Fijałkowska, Deputy Director for Science at the Mother and Child Institute,
  • Prof. Krystian Wita, MD, Regional Consultant for Cardiology, Deputy Director of the Upper Silesian Medical Center, Silesian Medical University,
  • Prof. Adam Witkowski, MD, PhD, Plenipotentiary of the Minister of Health for the National Cardiovascular Diseases Program for 2022-2032, representative of the Polish Society of Cardiology, representative of the Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski National Institute of Cardiology - National Research Institute,
  • Konrad Korbinski, representative of the Minister of Health,
  • Secretary - a representative of the Treatment Department at the Ministry of Health.

The National Council for Cardiology is a consultative and advisory body of the Minister of Health. It was established by an order of the Minister of Health dated May 10, 2021 on the establishment of the National Council for Cardiology (Official Gazette of the Min. of Health, 2021, item 39).

The Council's responsibilities include:

  • Participation in the development of the update of the National Cardiovascular Disease Program for 2022-2032.
  • Issuing an opinion on reports on the implementation of the Program and proposals for changes in the schedule, budget or activities and sub-measures of the Program, including changes in their implementers, developed by the Plenipotentiary of the Minister of Health for the National Cardiovascular Disease Program for 2022-2032 and the Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski National Institute of Cardiology - National Research Institute;
  • Evaluation of the ongoing activities of the Program and activities in the field of cardiovascular diseases, together with application to the minister responsible for health with regard to matters of introducing changes in these activities;
  • Proposing changes to the services covered by the pilot program of cardiac network care;
  • Applying to the minister responsible for health matters concerning the creation, modification and supplementation of health care services related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases;
  • Presentation to the minister responsible for health of proposals with recommendations for action on:
    • To increase the effectiveness and dissemination of preventive screening in the area of cardiovascular disease control,
    • Improving coordination and efficiency of cardiac care,
    • Monitoring the functioning of cardiac care and its effectiveness;
  • Issuing opinions on the standards of medical management of cardiovascular diseases developed by the National Institute of Cardiology Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski - National Research Institute, together with issuing recommendations in this regard;
    performing other tasks commissioned by the minister responsible for health.
