The government side was represented by Deputy Health Minister Piotr Bromber, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Staff Development Elżbieta Gadomska and Director of the Department of Social Dialogue Jakub Bydłoń.
As has been established, the common goal, both of the Polish Association of Speech Therapists and the Ministry of Health, is to regulate the speech therapy profession. Differences arise, however, in what the regulation should look like. The PZL believes that a separate law should be drafted on the speech therapy profession and the professional chamber of speech therapists. The Health Ministry, on the other hand, believes that the status of the speech therapy profession would benefit from leaving speech therapists out of the draft law on certain medical professions.
Due to the concerns of the speech therapy community, two directions for clarifying the current draft law were discussed at a meeting at the Health Ministry. These concern indicating that the practice of the profession of speech therapy teacher is considered the practice of speech therapy, and allowing the provision of therapeutic services as part of the operation of speech therapy offices separated in individual premises, without the need to register a business as a therapeutic entity.
The chairwoman of the PZL requested that the Ministry of Health hold another consultation meeting in a broader group with other stakeholders in the work on regulating the speech therapy profession. The request will be considered by the Ministry.
