E-consultation will speed up contact with specialist
Published May 9, 2023 08:41
The project will enable e-consultation of specialists between a primary care physician and a specialist from a partner hospital, as well as between a specialist from a partner hospital and a specialist from a highly specialized center.
The pilot, which has just begun, will include cardiology and breast cancer consultations. There will be a total of eight networks: four each in cardiology and oncology, and forty partner hospitals: twenty from each specialty. In addition, there will be eighty primary care centers: forty from each specialty. The Health Ministry estimates that at least 4,000 patients will benefit from specialist e-consultations.
- This is another step to bring the patient closer to the specialist and make it easier to contact him. We have coordinated care, that is, ongoing contact with a specialist on the family medicine side. Now we are supplementing it with contact and consultation with the hospital and consultation between hospitals with different levels of specialization. In each of these situations, the patient is the focus," says Health Minister Adam Niedzielski.
Through a special platform, created under the supervision of the Ministry of Digitization, doctors will be able to transfer a patient's complete medical records to each other, along with results from diagnostic imaging, and consult in real time, via camera, on the patient's health status.
- Electronic tools have been supporting patients and doctors for a long time. Poland has no small achievements in this field. After all, there is e-prescription, e-referral or e-medical documentation. E-consultation is a solution that will help the patient with faster diagnosis, says Minister of Digitization Janusz Cieszynski.
The partner of the e-Conslium project is the Communications Institute - National Research Institute, and the funds allocated for the construction of the special platform come from the European Social Fund, as part of the implementation of pro-quality measures in the health care system.
- The idea of e-Consilium is more than a standard patient consultation. It is our offer addressed to family doctors. Thanks to this solution, a patient - even one who goes to a PCP in a small town - will quickly receive a diagnosis and a treatment proposal. This solution is particularly important in the context of alarming statistics on cardiovascular diseases," argues the director of the Institute of Heart Diseases at the University Clinical Hospital in Wroclaw, Prof. Piotr Ponikowski.
The project, worth more than PLN 20 million, will run until the end of this year. After that, it is to be expanded to include other areas of specialization and services.
