The coordinator, as envisioned by the law, is to assist the patient in the treatment process and ensure that he or she has access to comprehensive therapy in his or her place of residence. The obligation to hire and appoint patient coordinators applies to all entities included in the National Cancer Network.
- Their role is to guide the patient "by the hand" through the entire treatment process. There are 27 of them in the Lower Silesian Oncology Center in Wroclaw alone and 12 in the Świętokrzyskie Oncology Center in Kielce. Oncology care in enters a level higher," wrote Adam Niedzielski.
The law on the National Oncology Network was signed by President Andrzej Duda on March 30. The act went into effect on April 20. According to Health Ministry spokesman Wojciech Andrusiewicz, 700 oncology coordinators are to be employed across the country as a target.
