Immunization Compensation Fund: How many applications, for what amount?

As of January 1, 2023, the Fund covers all mandatory and other anti-epidemic vaccinations performed after that date, not just COVID-19 vaccinations.
The MPC has so far received 1,528 applications for the benefit. Most applications came from residents of the Mazowieckie (15.9%), Silesian (11.2%), Malopolskie (9.8%) and Wielkopolskie (8.9%) provinces.
The benefits granted total nearly PLN 4.4 million. The average amount of the benefit is more than PLN 20 thousand. In the case of 6 people, a decision was issued granting the highest amount possible under the law, i.e. PLN 100 thousand.
According to the regulations, the Ombudsman reviews claims for benefits that relate to adverse reactions provided separately (in the Summary of Product Characteristics) for each vaccine. The need for changes in this regard is periodically evaluated by the European Medicines Agency. If a link between a disease and a vaccination is confirmed in the future, the Ombudsman will be able to return to cases already reviewed and change his decision. On the other hand, those who have not previously applied will then be able to do so within a year of the disease being added to the list.
Vaccines are the most effective tool in the fight against infectious diseases. Despite the high level of safety, vaccination is associated with some risk of adverse effects. This is why the Immunization Compensation Fund was established. From its funds, the Patient Ombudsman awards monetary benefits to people who have suffered harm as a result of vaccination. The first report covers the period until December 31, 2022. This was the time when the Fund's activities were focused on COVID-19 vaccination.
Starting in 2023, the Fund is providing even broader support that includes mandatory vaccinations in addition to COVID-19.
