More than three-quarters of large employers in the U.S. have seen an increase in mental health needs in their employees in recent years, according to a recent report compiled by the Business Group of Health. These include depression, anxiety and substance use disorders.

In particular, the recorded rate of change compared to the previous year is alarming. It turns out that last year an increase in mental health problems was noted by 44 percent of employers surveyed. This year it is already 77 percent, and another 16 percent expect such an increase in the future.

The report's creators note that employers are planning measures to curb the problem in 2024. This is primarily to ensure that employees have access to mental health services and provide a wider range of support.

- Our survey found that in 2024 and into the near future, employers will focus heavily on meeting employees' mental health needs while ensuring access and lowering cost barriers, says Ellen Kelsay, president and CEO of Business Group of Health.

The survey was conducted on 152 large U.S. employers from a variety of industries with more than 190 million employees.
