From July 22, vaccination with the fourth dose for people over 60 years of age and for people over 12 years of age with reduced immunity started in Poland - the Ministry of Health made this decision several days after the EMA recommendation. The second booster can be taken when a minimum of 120 days has passed from the first booster dose.
- Already 750 thousand. immunocompromised 60+ and 12+ people registered for the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccination. As many as 300 thousand of them took the vaccine - Minister Niedzielski wrote on Twitter. However, we have about 10 million seniors over 60 years of age, and among them there are about 2.5 million people who have not even accepted the basic vaccination schedule. A huge problem is also the low percentage of people who took the third dose of the vaccine - in the entire population every third Pole did it, among people over 60 - every second. Meanwhile, experts, incl. WHO, they have no doubts - especially the elderly should be fully protected with vaccinations and this should be the focus of the efforts of public authorities at the moment.
Adam Niedzielski also informed that, most likely, in early September, access to the fourth dose will be opened for everyone "at least 18+". This means that, contrary to the suggestions of the Ministry of Health, Poland will not wait with a large campaign of vaccinations with a second booster for preparations more adapted to the Omikron variant - these, most likely, will not be available until October or even in November.
