The new wing of the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze is already open

- We co-financed the expansion of the hospital and the purchase of modern equipment, which is a tool for doctors in their daily work, saving lives. However, as we know, sometimes this is not enough. The lack of knowledge about transplantation is a huge challenge. Transplants in children seem to be a particularly difficult topic. That is why we also focused on building awareness around this difficult topic - says Renata Kościelniak, president of the BGK Foundation.

More than 1.5 thousand jobs are performed annually at SCCS. heart surgery in adults and children. Many of these procedures are performed using minimally invasive techniques. Specialists from Zabrze perform a full profile of cardiological diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as well as all types of cardiac surgery performed around the world. The program of heart, lung, heart and lung transplantation in adults and children is carried out there on the widest scale in Poland. From the beginning of the center's operation until the end of 2021, over 1.4 thousand jobs were performed at SCCS. heart transplants and nearly 300 lung transplants.

- Achieving such good treatment results would not be possible without access to the most innovative technologies. The Silesian Center, thanks to the funding from the Ministry of Health, own funds, programs from the European Union, and the generosity of sponsors, was able to equip its branches and laboratories with such equipment. It could have opened a new pavilion - explains prof. Piotr Przybyłowski, medical director at the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze.

The official inauguration of the new part of the hospital was accompanied by a ceremonial concert organized by the BGK Foundation at the House of Music and Dance in Zabrze, entitled "My heart is a musician", during which appeared: Kamil Bednarek, Natalia Niemen, Ania Rusowicz, Krzysztof Kiljański, Danuta Błażejczyk and Monika Borzym.
