There is a new national consultant in the field of anesthesiology

Professor dr hab. n. med. Rafał Drwiła.
Professor Rafał Drwiła is the head of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy at the John Paul II Hospital in Krakow and associate professor at the Chair and Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy at the Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University. In 1983 he graduated from the medical department of the Medical Academy. Nicolaus Copernicus in Krakow. He obtained his doctorate (1996) and habilitation (2009) at the Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University. He was awarded the title of professor by the President of the Republic of Poland in 2016. He completed one year of clinical and scientific training at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) and clinical training in Neustadt and Huston. His main research interests focus on the prevention of blood loss during cardiac surgery and extracorporeal heating of patients with deep hypothermia. He is the author and co-author of several hundred studies in national and foreign magazines.
National consultants are appointed by the minister of health from among specialists in particular fields:
• medicine,
• pharmacy,
• other areas that are applicable in health care.
The minister may ask for the identification of candidates:
• national scientific societies that bring together specialists in a given field
• the relevant councils of the medical professions.
National consultants:
• initiate national epidemiological studies and evaluate the methods and results of these studies
• forecast health needs in their field
• advise on how to carry out tasks resulting from the National Health Program and other health programs
• give opinions on applications for referring a patient to treatment or diagnostic tests outside Poland;
• give opinions and advise on tasks carried out by the Medical Examinations Center, the Center for Postgraduate Education of Nurses and Midwives and the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education.
