A record daily number of Omicron infections was recorded in Germany on Thursday: 236,120 cases. Nevertheless, there are voices to develop and implement a system to alleviate the social constraints associated with SARS-CoV-2. "The formulation of this plan of freedom is the most important task of politics today," said Andreas Gassen, head of the KBV family physician association. Gassen says the acceptance of living with COVID-19 in the background should be accepted, as with the flu, which has new variants every year and is responsible for tens of thousands of deaths each year. "We have to accept this in the case of coronavirus and at the same time continue to implement vaccination for risk groups," added Gassen.

Other European countries, including Finland, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and neighboring Austria and Switzerland, began to reduce their restrictions in an effort to accelerate a return to pre-pandemic reality.

Last week, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz declined to provide details of national easing plans ahead of the peak of the latest wave of infection expected in mid-February. However, some German federal states, such as, for example, have already announced a relaxation of restrictions, which by some German health experts, led by Gernot Marx, head of the German association of intensive care, was considered a premature and hasty decision. According to Marx, specific mitigation measures should only be taken if the infection rate continues to decline over the course of a few days.

Chancellor Scholz is expected to discuss possible precautionary measures related to the coronavirus with federal leaders on February 16.
