Szczecin doctors involved in medics' protest in Germany. OIL supports the demands

The Presidium of the Regional Medical Council in Szczecin supports the efforts of doctors affiliated with the trade union - Marburger Bund - to improve working conditions and pay.
- Good working conditions and an adequate level of remuneration for medical personnel guarantee continuity of employment, which translates into proper patient care. Taking into account the fact that a large number of doctors affiliated with the Marbunger Bund include members of the Regional Chamber of Physicians in Szczecin, it is reasonable for the doctors' self-government to take a position on the issue. We appeal to the parties to resolve the dispute quickly, taking into account the welfare of patients," says Michał Bulsa, President of the Regional Medical Council in Szczecin.
The strike, which took place in Germany, was the largest warning strike in that country in years. Polish doctors who work in Germany, including representatives of the Regional Chamber of Physicians in Szczecin, are also involved.
- We are fighting to unfreeze our salaries frozen from July 2022 to 2025, taking into account inflation in Germany (8.6 percent inflation plus 2.5 percent raises, or a total of 11.1 percent) and to improve working conditions. During the pandemic, doctors in Germany did not receive any financial allowances for working with COVID-19 patients, as was the case in Poland, for example. A total of dozens of hospitals from more than five Länder joined the warning strike. About 4,000 doctors took part in the demonstration in Hamburg," says Rafal Krzysztopik, chairman of the Committee for Doctors Practicing Abroad of the ORL in Szczecin.
The protest began in front of the Asklepios Klinik St. Georg, then the protesters marched to the stage at the Gänsemarkt in Hamburg, where Dr. Renata Sajda, a member of the Chamber and representative of the Marburger Bund doctors' union in Pasewalk, among others, spoke.
- We are waiting for the outcome of further discussions with representatives of our employers and, depending on the outcome, we will decide how to proceed," says Dr. Rafal Krzysztopik.
