... Medical University of Gdańsk. From data provided by Forum Akademickie shows that 95.5% of MUG students have used vaccination against COVID-19 so far, which is the best result in the group of Polish public universities. Our staff and PhD students also came in the lead, taking 4th place in their respective categories, with vaccination rates of 95.7% and 94.6% respectively.
- Thank you to all members of our university community for taking the opportunity that modern medicine has created for us to vaccinate against COVID-19. This significantly facilitated the traditional form of teaching and research work, as well as providing life-saving medical services - says Dr. Tomasz Smiatacz, vice-rector for student affairs, head of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the MUG, provincial consultant in the field of infectious diseases. - At the same time, I would like to remind you to take the third dose, which will increase our immunity and, in the event of an infection, will allow the disease to pass much more smoothly.
From the beginning of the pandemic, the authorities of the Medical University of Gdańsk actively encouraged the use of widely available, effective and safe vaccinations against COVID-19. As emphasized in the appeal by the rector, prof. Marcin Gruchała, (...) the medical nature of the university gives it a unique role in society, resulting from care for the protection of human life and health. Responsible and prudent behavior, based on reliable knowledge and credible scientific evidence, especially rests with all persons involved in the creation of the health care system, especially those who form the academic community of medical universities.
Efficient vaccination was possible thanks to good cooperation and model organization of this process by the MUG clinical hospitals - University Clinical Center in Gdańsk and University Center of Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia. UCK is the undisputed leader in Pomerania and is one of the leaders in the country when it comes to the number of vaccinations.
- Our hospital was actively involved in the vaccination campaign from the very first day. We quickly organized and launched points that were accepted by all willing people from our region and beyond. In total, we have performed over 300,000 vaccinations - says the drug. Adam Sudoł, deputy general manager for medical logistics, responsible for the vaccination program at UCK. - It should be emphasized that students of many faculties of the MUG and young doctors, who played coordinating, organizational and informative roles, acting together with the nursing staff in the implementation of the vaccination process, were actively involved in the vaccination campaign conducted by our hospital. The efficient vaccination campaign is mainly due to them .
Since the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic, the University Center of Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia has been a key center in Pomerania in the fight against the epidemic. The MUG clinical hospital was the first fully prepared to provide professional care for patients infected with coronavirus.
- Last year, we performed over 23,000 vaccinations against COVID-19 as part of the newly organized points: nodal, universal and during the "We vaccinate in picnic" - explains prof. Marcin Renke, director of the University Center for Maritime and Tropical Medicine. - It is worth recalling that it was at UCMMiT that the first swab collection point in Poland was established to identify the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the drive-thru formula, in which MUG students downloaded most of the more than 22,000 samples obtained from our patients.
