Today is International Nurses and Midwives Day

The holiday was established by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) at a congress in Mexico in 1973. May 12 is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing and founder of the first school of nursing, which opened in 1860 at St. Thomas' Hospital in London.
- I would like to thank all those in these professions for their commitment, empathy and daily care for the patient. I wish you perseverance, smiles and satisfaction with your work," wrote Adam Niedzielski.
As the Healthcare Employers' Agreement reminds, nurses and midwives are one of the most numerous professional groups in Poland, and the work they do requires not only high qualifications, but also exceptional dedication and devotion.
- The role of nurses and midwives is invaluable. Often on their initiative, educational and information campaigns are conducted. They are the ones who reach out to school communities, seniors, the disabled, the bedridden and all those who, for various reasons, have limited access to health care. We family physicians appreciate their contribution to patient care. The nursing and midwifery profession is an extremely responsible mission. We would like it to be appreciated by those in power, and nurses and midwives to derive real satisfaction from their work," says Bozena Janicka, president of PPOZ.
The Supreme Chamber of Physicians also joins in wishing the nurses and midwives well.
- I wish you much success and satisfaction in your daily work. Your commitment is the foundation of any health care system, so its organizers should appreciate and reward your work. This recognition, which will be followed by concrete decisions, I also sincerely wish you," said President of the Supreme Medical Council Lukasz Jankowski.
