Students from Szczecin will learn enteral nutrition using phantoms
Published Nov. 10, 2022 10:27
The equipment donated to students is two pediatric phantoms for teaching enteral nutrition, with the possibility of installing a nasogastric tube and handling gastrostomy. Students will also be able to use two phantoms for learning enteral nutrition, imitating an adult. The CSM PUM equipment will also be increased by one age-simulation suit and one age-sensation simulator.
The skills gained by students while learning the phantom will be especially valuable as many patients are now malnourished on admission to hospital and some are not receiving the nutritional treatment they are given. These are mainly people suffering from oncological and neurological diseases, as well as those with diseases of the digestive system or kidney failure.
- Without nutrition, there is no treatment. We knew that we wanted to develop education in the field of nutritional treatment at our university. The grant awarded by the Nutricia Foundation inspired us to make the classes permanently included in the syllabus, and the individual nature of the support offered enabled the implementation of a program tailored to our needs. - says prof. Ewa Stachowska, head of the Department and Department of Human Nutrition and Metabolomics of the PUM in Szczecin.
Nutritional treatment classes have already been introduced into the syllabuses by three other medical universities in Poland - the Medical University of Warsaw, the Medical University of Silesia and the Medical University of Lublin.
