Pharmaceutical prescriptions

Vice-president of the Supreme Pharmaceutical Council - MA farm. Marek Tomków - he gave an interview to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna on pharmaceutical prescriptions, in which he stated, inter alia, that "when a person comes to the pharmacy and says: I have very high blood pressure, I feel unwell or he is diabetic and takes insulin that has just expired. Then, if the pharmacist decides that there will be serious health consequences for the patient without this drug, he will issue a prescription. " This is another interview in which only general information was given without specific data such as, for example: the number of pharmacists who issued pharmaceutical prescriptions, the number of pharmaceutical prescriptions issued during the year, for which drugs are most often issued such prescriptions. Mr. Marek Tomków has repeatedly spoken in the media. Unfortunately, there were stories of weird content.

It is obvious that pharmacists should guarantee safe pharmacotherapy. Meanwhile, during the epidemic in Poland (from March 20, 2020 to May 16, 2022) as many as 1,674 pharmacists issued 6,621 pharmaceutical prescriptions for 7,457 packages of the drug amantadine. It should be emphasized that there has been no scientific evidence or evidence that amantadine can be effective in the treatment of COVID-19, and there is still no evidence. Amantadine enthusiasts are known not to get vaccinated because they are taking this drug. They are then hospitalized in a serious condition and die of COVID-19. Every pharmacist who issued a pharmaceutical prescription for the drug amantadine broke the law and showed extreme irresponsibility, because the idea behind a pharmaceutical prescription is that it should be an exceptional action, justified by special circumstances. Moreover, the pharmacist may refuse to perform any pharmaceutical service referred to in Art. 4 sec. 3 of the Act on the Pharmacy Profession, if its implementation may endanger the life or health of the patient.

The Supreme Pharmaceutical Council (NRA) does not understand that every pharmacist should be the guarantor of safe pharmacotherapy because it has done nothing about pharmacists who issued pharmaceutical prescriptions for the drug amantadine. Will pharmacists who prescribe amantadine also review their medications? The very thought of it makes you fear to be afraid. Unfortunately, the NRA takes the wrong view that no courses are needed to perform drug reviews because: "every pharmacist qualified to practice as a pharmacist is entitled to pharmaceutical care, which is the main form of practicing the profession of pharmacist."

At the Economic Forum in Karpacz on September 7, 2022, a panel "Are we properly using the potential of over 11,000 people?" Polish pharmacies? Pharmaceutical care in Poland and in the world ”. None of the NRA participated in the panel, despite the fact that five Presidents were present in Karpacz. To say that it is embarrassing is not enough. Nevertheless, the level of satisfaction and self-love of these Presidents is very high.
