- Shortly after Peter was born, the doctor told me: we have a problem," recalls his dad, Mr. Adam. - The disease became a challenge for the whole family. But most depends on Peter to develop the right habits. Although he sometimes gets angry and rebellious because he wants to function like his colleagues, he knows to avoid pain and keep his skin in the best possible condition he has to moisturize it several times a day and wear special medical clothing at night, which helps keep his skin moist for as long as possible. A set of underwear, which is worn wet over skin moistened with emollient, immediately after bathing, serves us for about a month. Its use is quite intensive, as every day it needs to be washed in a mild detergent and put back on wet to sleep. For this reason, it regularly needs to be replaced with a new one.
Until now, only foreign companies had a monopoly on the market for the production and sale of these garments: leggings, gloves, or shirts. Now, thanks to cooperation with the Silesian Medical University, these garments will be produced by a Polish company from the Gatta group. A new line of clothing is being created, and it's a breakthrough, because until now these types of products were mainly available from foreign manufacturers.
- This is not an ordinary garment, but an element that supports therapy," stresses Dr. Hubert Arasiewicz, head of the Clinical Department of Dermatology and Vascular Anomalies Treatment for Children at the Silesian Medical University, co-developer of the garment, whose appropriate material construction reduces friction, improves skin comfort and supports the restoration of its protective barrier. As Dr. Arasiewicz adds, the use of this garment will also support therapy in the aforementioned fish scale, psoriasis, other inflammatory skin diseases, post-radiotherapy conditions, chronic dryness and senile pruritus.
Among other things, the design uses soft, highly elastic outer seams, no irritating elements, and specially selected fibers (viscose, polyamide, elastane) to promote breathability, flexibility and durability of the material.
Statistically, AD is experienced by an increasing number of children from birth to adulthood. In the 0 - 4 age group, as many as one in 12 children experience the effects of this chronic infectious disease. From 0 - 19 to a year old, more than 400,000 people suffer from Atopic Dermatitis.
Gatta Military sp. z o. o. group. (a Ferax Group company, owner of the Gatta brand) a manufacturer with more than 30 years of experience in the design and manufacture of apparel and textiles, and WYUM have entered into a clinical and technical collaboration to create a product that addresses the needs of the growing population of patients with AD, thereby increasing the availability of specialized clothing. It will also be more affordable and available in children's dermatology wards in the form of a "clothes maker."
The Gatta brand is synonymous with caring for the quality, comfort and "everyday well-being" of our female customers," emphasizes Piotr Slupski Member of the Board of Directors of the FERAX brand in his statement. This time we decided to go a step further and use our unique competence and knowledge for medical needs. We are proud that the cooperation with the Silesian Medical University has brought us to a place where we can support in solving the problems of patients experiencing skin diseases. This is an important step for the further development of the Gatta brand in the area of specialized clothing.
In turn, Prof. Dr. Edward Wylęgała, Vice Rector for Technology Transfer, stresses that this is not just a formal agreement between a large company and a medical university. - Above all, it is an example of modern thinking about development and thinking in which science, medicine and responsible business come together to serve humanity. The cooperation undertaken relates to the area of extremely important and yet very sensitive support for patients suffering from atopic dermatitis. The launch of specialized clothing dedicated to those struggling with the disease shows that innovation can have a very practical dimension, close to the patient's daily life and really improving their comfort, he says. He adds that on one side we have the experience, production potential and market power of a large company. On the other, the research competence, clinical expertise and authority of a medical university. In the middle, however, is what is most important - the patient and his needs.
