NIO-PIB director dismissed

Prof. Jan Walewski served as director of the NIO-PIB (then the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Oncology Center - Institute) since March 16, 2016. He is a specialist in internal medicine, clinical oncology, hematology and clinical transplantology. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Warsaw. He has been affiliated with the Warsaw oncology center since the beginning of his career, in 1977. He received the title of professor of medical sciences in 2007. Since 2010, he has headed the NIO-PIB Lymphatic Tumor Clinic.
According to the National Cancer Institute website, Prof. Walewski has made significant contributions to optimizing treatment for Burkitt's lymphoma and T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma, implementing a clinical program for hematopoietic cell transplantation, leading clinical trials of dendritic cell vaccines for indolent lymphomas, research on monoclonal antibodies and new drugs for patients with lymphoma, multiple myeloma and CLL.
For his services, he was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit (2002) and the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2012).
