The educational event titled "Visit the Bowel" is held as part of the 3rd edition of the educational campaign "Don't Have It Somewhere. All about colorectal cancer." and accompanies the XXVI Congress of the Polish Society of Clinical Oncology, which is currently taking place in Gdansk.

The campaign "Don't Have It Anywhere. All about colorectal cancer." is organized by the EuropaColon Poland Foundation, and is aimed at educational activities to raise awareness of this cancer among Poles. We are keen that as many people as possible learn about the risk factors and symptoms that cannot be underestimated. When detected early, colorectal cancer can be cured almost 100% of the time. That's why we encourage all Poles over 50 to come in for screening themselves, especially since colonoscopy is now available under the National Health Fund with anesthesia," explains Iga Rawicka, president of the EuropaColon Poland Foundation.

Colorectal cancer is the only preventable cancer of the digestive tract. It is easily diagnosed provided that a colonoscopy has just been performed. Testing for fecal occult blood is also increasingly common. But while the so-called FIT test should be done every year or once every two years, a colonoscopy only needs to be done once every 10 years. It is estimated that in the next 10 years the number of colorectal cancer patients in Poland will increase to about 27,000. Currently we have about 20,000 new cases per year. Unfortunately, as many as 64% of patients who are diagnosed too late die each year, often as early as stage III or IV of the disease. And this means that we have a lot of work ahead of us," Rawicka added.

There are currently 36 Colorectal Cancer Competency Centers (so-called Colorectal Cancer Units) in Poland, where patients with colorectal cancer can be treated. One of them, and the only one in Pomerania to join the "Don't Have It Somewhere." campaign, is the Colorectal Cancer Unit at the Regional Hospital in Elbląg. Experts from the Elblag hospital talk about important issues for the colorectal cancer patient. All educational materials produced at this center are available on the website:

More details about the campaign itself can be found on a dedicated subpage at https://europacolonpolska.pl/kampania-nie-miej-tego-gdzies/ of the EuropaColon Poland Foundation.
