As the Ministry of Health informs, centers for medically assisted procreation that meet personnel, equipment and technical requirements can be implementers of the program.

"The implementer must, among other things, provide access to services financed under the program for at least six days a week, continuous embryological supervision of the laboratory seven days a week, and patient telephone access to staff also throughout the week. The implementer is also to provide on-call services on non-working days, if the patients' clinical situation so requires," the ministry's website reads.

The center is also to provide adequate staff, including: at least two physicians with a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology and at least two with a specialty in clinical embryology or a degree in medicine, biology or biotechnology, and at least one psychologist. In turn, the number of midwives and nurses is to be appropriate to the planned procedures.

- It is important to me that the program implementers are not only private centers, but that as many public entities as possible participate," stresses Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna.

The IVF program will run from June 1, 2024 to December 31, 2028, with PLN 500 million allocated in the state budget each year for this purpose. The total is PLN 2.5 billion.

The program, developed by a team of experts, will include couples:

  • with established or unsuccessfully treated infertility in the 12 months prior to enrollment in the program,
  • Being married or in cohabitation,
  • Those that have cryopreserved and stored embryos, as part of previously implemented procedures.

An age criterion has also been adopted. Free IVF will be available to women:

  • up to the age of 42, using their own ova or sperm donation,
  • Under the age of 45 if they use oocyte or embryo donation,
  • As well as men under the age of 55.

The program also covers oncopombination. Oncology patients who want to have children will be able to secure reproductive material for the future by collecting and storing gametes before or during cancer treatment. In this case, the program will cover women from puberty to age 40 and men from puberty to age 45.
