- The topic of patient safety is being talked about more and more. It is no longer something that was only discussed by experts. It is becoming the subject of disputes that go beyond the world of experts," said in the capital of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Patient Ombudsman Bartłomiej Chmielowiec at the opening of the 3rd Patient Safety Conference, organized in cooperation with the University Clinical Center in Gdansk.

Bartholomew Chmielowiec stressed that patient safety is also about legislative projects and announcements of future changes, such as those on increasing the safety of women in perinatal care, announced by Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna.

- It is also important to remember that a certain process is needed to achieve the ideal state, which is ongoing. Some changes cannot be made here and now, although sometimes one would like to do so," the MPC said.

As he pointed out, the most important challenge from the ombudsman's point of view now is to implement a strategy for patient safety.

- We are working together with the Supreme Chamber of Physicians to make it a document adopted by the Council of Ministers, in which we would set out the goals and challenges to be met and the indicators we would like to achieve," emphasized Bartlomiej Chmielowiec.

According to the ombudsman, there is also now a need to focus on issues related to education, information, implementing a just culture, and reporting adverse events.
