The action carried out was aimed at increasing consumer safety. During the summer season, public interest in products that protect against mosquito and tick bites increases. The inspection activities targeted both distributors and manufacturers and importers who market these products. The inspections covered stationary sales entities and the e-commerce market (online sales platforms, online stores).
Results of inspections of biocidal products
- As part of the action, the sanitary inspectorate inspected 12,108 biocidal products available for sale in stationary stores and 794 for sale online. A total of 53 entities that market the products and 2,550 entities that make them available on the market were inspected.
- Non-compliance with the current law was found in about 2% of the products inspected in stationary sales and as many as 20% in online sales.
- In many cases, the detected irregularities were already eliminated during the inspections themselves and there was no need for further action.
- In other cases, administrative decisions were issued ordering the suspension of marketing and/or withdrawal of non-compliant products from the market. The decisions concerned about 170 biocidal products of various origins, with further investigations underway in some cases.
- The largest number of irregularities detected was the lack of a valid biocidal product marketing authorization(30%), as well as improper labeling(27%).
- Irregularities detected also included: exceeding the expiration date, errors in the safety data sheet and improper advertising.
