According to the spokeswoman for the WSSE in Lublin, Agnieszka Dados z after receiving information about the poisoning, the sanitary inspectorate immediately inspected the establishment and conducted a detailed analysis of supplies, storage conditions of raw materials, semi-finished products, foodstuffs and menus.
A spokeswoman for the Lublin sanepid assures that samples have been taken for testing, and epidemiological interviews have already been conducted with parents and staff. All exposed persons have been tested for the bacteria.
The salmonella bacterium can cause major or intestinal salmonellosis. According to the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, the first symptoms of the disease appear between 6 hours and 3-7 days after contact with the infectious agent and include abdominal pain, fever, diarrhea, dehydration, nausea, vomiting. Sometimes a systemic infection with a more severe course, the so-called extraintestinal form, can develop, especially in young children, the elderly or immunocompromised people. Abscess formation, inflammation of the bile ducts, lungs, meninges, joints, bone marrow, bones and septicemia are then observed.
A person can become infected by eating food contaminated with Salmonella bacteria, consuming food products from infected animals (meat, eggs, milk) or using contaminated kitchen equipment, food production machinery. In special conditions (hospitals, nursing homes), infection can spread by direct contact or by air.
