PES: For some doctors, the oral exam is a formality
Published July 1, 2022 08:45
The oral part of the PES is passed by almost all doctors who pass the written part with an at least good grade, according to the data presented by the Supreme Medical Chamber. - The oral examination in this group of doctors is only a formality and has no impact on the professional preparation of these doctors. This is undeniable proof of the sense of resignation from the oral part of PES for these doctors, says the President of the Supreme Medical Council, Łukasz Jankowski, in relation to the pass statistics of the National Specialization Examination among doctors who obtained at least a good grade in the written part.
The data received from the Medical Examinations Center was sent by the President of the NRL to the Minister of Health, Adam

Dear Mr. Minister,
with reference to the letter of 30 May 2022 on the dismissal of doctors who obtained at least a good grade in the written part of the National Specialization Examination, from the need to pass the oral part of this examination, I would like to inform you that the Supreme Medical Council received statistics from the Medical Examinations Center passing the oral part of the PES exam in this group of doctors.
Statistics show that almost all doctors who passed the written part of the PES exam with a grade of at least good, then pass the oral exam. This is an undeniable proof of the sense of resigning from the oral part of PES for these doctors, which is postulated by our community, paying attention to systemic conditions.
The data taking into account the exams conducted in 2018-2022 show that, for example, in this year's spring session, 100% of people who obtained a very good grade in the written part passed the oral exam. After summarizing the results of 9 examination sessions, it should be noted that out of 426 people with a very good grade in the written part, only 2 failed the oral part (0.4%). In the case of people with a good plus rating, it was only 0.7%, and for people with a good rating, it was 1.3%. In our opinion, the presented data clearly indicate that the oral examination in this group of doctors is only a formality and has no impact on the professional preparation of these doctors.
I emphasize once again the issue of worsening staffing problems in the health care system. Any physician's time for patients should not be allocated to revising the oral exam material. I also reiterate the fact that the exemption from the oral part of the PES group of doctors with a score of at least good in the written part will in no way reduce the quality of education and the level of competence of a specialist doctor. I enclose a letter from the Medical Examinations Center with detailed data.
I kindly ask you to analyze this data and take it into account when deciding on solutions that could be a response to the problems reported by the medical community.
Yours sincerely,
Łukasz Jankowski
