In connection with media reports on the subject of freezing the minimum wage of doctors, commented on by Lukasz Jankowski - President of the Supreme Medical Council, the All-Polish Physicians Trade Union strongly emphasizes:
The OZZL does not accept the formulation of any declarations regarding the working conditions and remuneration of physicians without prior, reliable agreement on the position with all organizations of the medical community. Statements, representatives of individual organizations concern only their perspective and cannot be perceived as representative of the entire environment.
OZZL stresses that decisions affecting the professional status of doctors must be the result of a common, clearly developed consensus among all medical organizations. The union opposes attempts to unilaterally shape remuneration policy and recalls that respect for the work of doctors and their role in the health care system requires a partnership approach and real dialogue. According to the OZZL, the long-standing policy of "divide and rule" has led to great differentiation in doctors' salaries, and at the lowest level has practically equaled the minimum salary of a specialist doctor employed under a contract of employment with the salary of a nurse or physiotherapist with a specialization, even though he is burdened with the greatest responsibility and is required to have the highest competence in the system. On the other hand, the framework of the system has been built in such a way that some procedures are undervalued and others overvalued. Facility directors under pressure from the bottom line are able to pay doctors who perform procedures that save the bottom line of the facilities, and of which there are a limited number - crores.
