- Eligibility should be assigned to the patient so that prescriptions for free drugs for patients under 18 and over 65 can be issued by any doctor, regardless of where he or she works, according to Klaudiusz Komor, vice president of the Supreme Medical Council. As the law currently stands, free drugs cannot be written during a visit that takes place on a commercial basis.

As the NIL's vice president writes in his statement, the chamber has received numerous requests with appeals to urgently address the problem of unfair restrictions on doctors' authority to issue free prescriptions to eligible patients under the age of 18 and over the age of 65.
- According to current regulations, such prescriptions cannot be issued by doctors, even specialists who work in offices or units that do not have contracts with the National Health Fund. In response, we want to assure you that we have been working intensively on solving this problem for a long time," assures Klaudiusz Komor.
In the opinion of the Medical Council, such a situation is an injustice and an unjust restriction not only of a doctor's rights, but above all of a patient's rights.
- We are actively participating in the ministerial team on prescribing and filling prescriptions for finished and prescription drugs. The experts who are part of it, including representatives of the Ministry of Health, are now unanimous in their opinion that these entitlements should be assigned to the patient so that prescriptions for free medicines for patients under 18 and over 65 can be issued by any doctor, regardless of where he or she works, the NIL vice president adds.
In the opinion of the Medical Council, urgent implementation of these changes is necessary. The main obstacle, they point out, is the current legal environment, related to the post-election period and the process of organizing a new parliament and government.
