A wave of influenza is sweeping through the country. More than half of the infections are in children. The National Health Fund monitors the situation in pediatric hospitals. Meanwhile, vaccination coverage is still at a dramatically low level.

"We have nearly 270,000 flu cases per week, half of which are children. I have commissioned the National Health Fund to continuously monitor pediatric occupancy,” wrote the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, on Twitter.

Yesterday, there were 10,000 cases across the country. pediatric beds in hospitals. Local branches of the National Health Fund are to react to signals about the increase in bed occupancy.

- We see a flu epidemic unfolding. Data from the last week show that we have not returned to the state before the Covid-19 epidemic, because there are more infections. At the moment, in the ascending curves, we are already breaking 2019 and 2018. This is, among other things, the result of our lack of resilience. During the Covid-19 epidemic, we did not come into contact with other viruses often. Our body has lost its resistance to them. At the moment we have a dominant influenza virus, but especially in children also the RSV virus - said in an interview for TVN 24, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Wojciech Andrusiewicz.

The lowest vaccination coverage and the greatest problem with influenza infections are recorded in Lubuskie, Podkarpackie and Małopolskie voivodeships. Two million doses of the vaccine are secured throughout Poland. So far, only 630,000 people have been vaccinated, while a year ago, over a million people were vaccinated against influenza during the same period last year.
