Minister Sajid Javid said 21 children would receive the best possible care in hospitals across the country. The children and their closest family members arrived on a special flight organized by the government at the request of Polish officials. First, young patients will be examined and then referred to appropriate hospitals. One of the Polish pediatric oncologists told BBC News journalists that most of the children coming from Ukraine were in a life-threatening situation.

"I am proud that the UK is offering medical care to Ukrainian children who have been expelled from their homeland by the Russian invasion," commented Javid. "I know the amazing NHS staff will give them the best care possible."

Nine doctors from the Children's Hospital in Southampton came to Poland to fetch the children. "The families were incredibly grateful for their help, and the stories they shared were terrifying," reported the medics.

The UK government is working on the legal details of the action that will enable English people to receive Ukrainian refugees in their homes, in the first place they dealt with the provisions on the implementation of urgent medical care.

Javid also said the government has already shipped seven planes to Ukraine with more than 650,000 humanitarian aid items, including wound care packages, intensive care equipment and essential medications. The eighth plane took off on Monday morning.
