The Navigator is a question-and-answer publication that shows readers how to navigate the health care system. It is designed to explain, in a simple and understandable way, the complex issues that often pose a problem for patients seeking a way to quickly receive medical help and effective treatment. The navigator was developed by a group of family physicians working in primary care and experts from the Patient Ombudsman.

- We want the navigator to become a helpful tool, thanks to which patients will more quickly receive information on how the health care sector functions, how to move efficiently in it. I hope that patients equipped with the right amount of information will feel more comfortable using medical services," says Patient Ombudsman Bartlomiej Chmielowiec. The Ombudsman adds that it is a publication that is also useful for health care workers, as it provides supplementary material and a reliable source of up-to-date information.

- The navigator explains the intricacies of the system in a clear way and provides knowledge about patients' rights or opportunities to obtain assistance in the treatment process at various stages. A wide group of experts - practitioners, involved in the development of the content, guarantees the reliability of the information and gives confidence in the practical nature of the information contained in the guide," assesses Magdalena Kolodziej, president of the We Patients Foundation.

The navigator is divided into thematic chapters, making it easier to quickly get directly to the issue of interest. These include: primary health care, teleportation, coordinated care or specialty clinics.

The publication also indicates in which situations to go to the ED and when to call an emergency medical team for help. There is also no shortage of chapters on psychiatric and hospice care, pediatrics or care for pregnant patients. The Navigator also explains the rules for reimbursement of medicines and medical devices, obtaining sick leave and the right to care for a child or other family member. It also answers questions about the rules of sanitary transport and medical certification and hospice care.

The guide is available for download on the Patient Ombudsman's website: DOWNLOAD
