- This type of treatment can be used by insured persons after receiving a referral. Referral of a child for spa treatment is always decided by a doctor. It is available for children as young as three years old. A child's stay at a health resort is completely free of charge. It is financed by the National Health Fund," recalls Agnieszka Białas-Sitarska, spokesperson for the Świętokrzyskie branch of the National Health Fund.
The most commonly treated conditions at children's spas include upper and lower respiratory diseases, orthopedic and traumatic diseases, obesity and rheumatological diseases.
Children between the ages of 3 and 6 may qualify for spa sanatorium treatment. The duration of such treatment is 21 days and includes at least 54 physiotherapy treatments, an average of 3 treatments per day. Children between the ages of 3 and 18, on the other hand, can qualify for inpatient spa treatment. The duration of such treatment is 27 days, with at least 66 physiotherapy treatments, also an average of 3 treatments per day.
During their stay at the resort, children are also provided with schooling at the primary and secondary school levels. Treatment can thus take place throughout the year, not just during the holiday season.
- The spa makes use of various natural resources and physical factors, i.e.: mineral waters, mud, climatotherapeutic stimuli, hydrotherapy, physical therapy or kinesitherapy," points out Agnieszka Białas-Sitarska.
During their stay, depending on the profile of the spa, as well as on the needs and indications, children and adolescents can benefit from, among other things: balneotherapy (treatment with natural resources), drinking cures and inhalations, hydrotherapy, thermotherapy, phototherapy, electrotherapy, kinesitherapy, therapeutic massage, as well as individual and collective gymnastics and education for health, i.e. learning a healthy lifestyle (rational nutrition, physical activity).
The National Health Fund, in its latest Patient's Guide: How to go with your child to a health resort on the National Health Fund informs what spa treatment for children and adolescents is, what benefits are free, who issues the referral, when should the child be accompanied by a parent?
