Today, a draft amendment to the Act on the Professions of Physicians and Dentists has been submitted to the Council of Ministers. The changes are to concern the principles of financing benefits, including for the unemployed, seniors and pregnant women.

The project provides for the resignation from paying the health insurance premium, currently financed from the state budget. This applies, inter alia, to the unemployed, children, pupils, students, PhD students and trainees. These people will continue to be compulsory for health insurance and will continue to have the insured person status. According to the provisions, the National Health Fund will become the entity obliged to finance healthcare services in the field of highly specialized services, medicines for people over 75 and medicines for pregnant women.

"The change is aimed at reducing state budget expenditure and administrative costs related to the payment of health insurance contributions from the state budget," reads the Implementation Impact Assessment.

The project is to be processed separately, bypassing the legal commission. The new regulations are to enter into force at the beginning of 2023.
