There is a new national consultant in obstetrics and gynecology

Prof. Ewa Wender-Ożegowska, MD, has become a national consultant in obstetrics and gynecology. Since 1983, she has been professionally affiliated with the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinical Hospital of the Poznan University of Medical Sciences, where she simultaneously teaches in the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Gynecologic Oncology.
She has served as head of the UMP Reproductive Clinic, vice dean (since 2008) and dean (since 2016) of the Faculty of Medicine. She also served as Vice-Chancellor for Organizational Affairs and International Cooperation (2019-2020) and Vice-Chancellor for Doctoral School and Postgraduate Education for the 2020-2024 term.
She was involved in the Association for the Advancement of Reproductive Medicine. In 2022, along with politicians from the Civic Coalition, she became a member of the "Yes to In Vitro" Legislative Initiative Committee, which seeks to restore state reimbursement of IVF.
National consultants are appointed by the Minister of Health from among specialists in particular fields:
- Medicine,
- pharmacy,
- Other fields that are applicable to health care.
The minister may ask for candidates:
- scientific societies of national scope that bring together specialists in a particular field,
- The relevant health professional governments.
National consultants:
- initiate national epidemiological studies and evaluate the methods and results of these studies;
- forecast health needs in their field;
- advise on how to implement tasks that stem from the National Health Program and other health programs;
- Give their opinion on requests to refer a patient for treatment or diagnostic tests outside Poland;
- give opinions and advice on tasks carried out by the Center for Medical Examinations, the Center for Postgraduate Training of Nurses and Midwives and the Center for Medical Postgraduate Training.
