HCV is asymptomatic in 80% of cases. Currently, there are approximately 150,000 undiagnosed people in Poland. It is a time bomb with delayed ignition - says Urszula Jaworska, president of the Urszula Jaworska Foundation. Today - on World Hepatitis Day - we talk to Urszula Jaworska about what must happen for the virus to eradicate and what the chances are for the patient's fast path.

Yesterday there was a press conference "Time is chasing us" combined with a free anti-HCV testing campaign organized by the Urszula Jaworska Foundation. In an interview with the president of the Foundation, we said, inter alia, about:

  • Problems related to prevention in Poland in the context of HCV and reasons for the impossibility of meeting the WHO target for eradication of the virus by 2030.
  • The need to increase the performance of Anti-HCV tests (and introduce testing to HEDs). Recall: from July 1, free testing at the POZ level.
  • A project regarding the availability of therapy for uninsured prisoners who cannot receive treatment at the NHF. There are currently 120 people in prisons with cirrhosis of the liver who require urgent treatment, while the ministry is providing treatment for around eight of them.
