Scientists from the Medical University of Warsaw have developed a quick test for endometriosis

Endometriosis is manifested by regular pain, located in the groin, lower abdomen, and sometimes around the anus. Pain occurs before or just after menstruation. Endometriosis develops when endometrial tissue (the lining of the uterus) appears outside the uterus. Detecting the disease is not easy. Many women are diagnosed only during surgery, when the doctor takes biopsies. It is estimated that 8-12 years pass from the first symptoms to the diagnosis.
Thanks to the test developed by a team led by prof. Jacek Malejczyk and Dr. Ilona Kalaszczyńska, there is a chance for this to change. The test is similar to those we know from diagnosing the presence of coronavirus. In the case of endometriosis, the marker is a specific gene that is overactive in women suffering from this disease. To perform the test, the gynecologist will take material from the endometrium of the patient's uterus using a minimally invasive aspiration biopsy. They will then send this material to a lab that will check for endometriosis.
The test may be available at the end of March.
