– At the national level, drug stocks are assured. We have a supply of antibiotics and antiviral drugs for a month - said Health Minister Adam Niedzielski in an interview with Polsat News. He added that the lack of a drug is one thing, and its limited availability is another. – The situation in which the patient cannot buy the prescribed medicine is really uncomfortable. On a national scale, however, drug stocks are balanced. Of course, this does not preclude a situation where a particular pharmacy may be out of stock. We monitor not only the availability of one specific drug, but also its substitutes - explained Adam Niedzielski. As the head of the Ministry of Health reminded, last week the state reserves of antibiotics were released. Bigger problems arise with antiviral drugs used to treat influenza.

Meanwhile, a new announcement of the Minister of Health has been published on the list of medicinal products, foodstuffs for particular nutritional uses and medical devices at risk of unavailability on the territory of Poland. This time the list contains 269 items. This is 53 more compared to the previous list.

The liquidation of small maternity wards, where one hundred or two hundred children are born annually, should be continued. Such branches can only be justified in geographically excluded areas, such as the Bieszczady Mountains. Wherever possible, hospitals should communicate and connect small delivery rooms. Not only for the economic calculation, but above all - safety. These are the most important conclusions from the Thursday meeting of the Health Committee, which dealt with the minister's information on the situation of pediatric and gynecological-obstetric wards. In both areas, the departments are decreasing, one of the key factors is of course demographics, but the recipes for this situation are different: in the case of pediatrics, it is a challenge to find such a model for contracting and financing pediatric services that even in small hospitals, especially during infectious seasons, it is possible treatment of patients. In the case of maternity wards - obtaining a consensus that in the current conditions maintaining them in every hospital is pointless.

16 percent of hospitals do not use safe equipment in the drug preparation procedure. Only 11 percent facilities use only safe injection needles, and only one in four uses closed systems for blood collection each time. These are the conclusions of the report Safe Hospital is a Safe Patient, developed by the Coalition for Hospital Safety. You can read more about the report at Medexpress.pl
