XI Congress of the Polish Medical Community on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus / IV World Congress of Polish Physicians

The year 2023, in which the XI Congress of Polish Medicine /IV World Congress of Polish Physicians is held, is a special date, as it marks the 550th anniversary of the birth of the great astronomer and physician Nicolaus Copernicus, who spent most of his adult, creative life in Warmia. Thus, the event has been included in the calendar of ceremonies commemorating the event and has received the patronage of, among others, the Governor of Warmia and Mazury, the Marshal of Warmia and Mazury, the Mayor of the City of Olsztyn, the Starost of Olsztyn, as well as Lady Blanka Rosenstiel, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland, founder and president of the American Institute of Polish Culture.
Prof. Sergiusz Nawrocki, pro-rector of UWM's Collegium Medicum and head of UWM's Department of Oncology, invited to the Scientific Committee people from the academic community who are not only authorities at home and abroad, but deal with key and groundbreaking issues that have significantly changed the treatment options for the most serious diseases in clinical practice around the world. The Federation of Polish Medical Organizations is represented on the Scientific Committee by Prof. Maria Siemionow of the University of Illinois at Chicago, an eminent surgeon who led the team responsible for the first facial transplantation and who will receive the title of Doctor H.C. on May 31, 2023. D. from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.

The invitation to join the Scientific Committee was accepted by, among others, Prof . Teresa Whiteside of the University of Pittsburgh, who works on cancer immunology, which has revolutionized oncology treatment in the last decade, Prof. Pawel Kalinski of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (an oncologist and immunologist who deals with modulation of the immune response and its integration with classical cancer treatments - surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy), Prof. Marcin Mycko, head of the Scientific Council of the UWM Medical Sciences Discipline (a neurologist who deals with the role of modulation of the immune response in multiple sclerosis).
"Challenges of Modern Medicine" also includes disaster medicine, an issue that will be introduced by Dr. Mariusz Goniewicz of the Military Medical Board, chairman of the Bioethics Committee of the Supreme Medical Council.
In modern daily medical practice, infectious and zoonotic diseases should not be forgotten, which will be prepared for us by specialists in veterinary medicine, including public health issues such as animal food as a threat to humans. There will also be no shortage of dental topics.
Sessions for young scientists are also planned, so that - by submitting papers - they can be not only listeners, but also active participants in the congress. A workshop in this regard will be conducted by Prof. Zbigniew K. Wszołek.
The hosts have made every effort to ensure that the meeting in Olsztyn, in addition to a substantive debate among doctors, will be a unique meeting that will not only deepen the ties between the Polish community and Poland, but also interpersonal, collegial and professional ties, leaving wonderful, unforgettable memories. This will be served by a rich program of integration meetings, including the 6th edition of the Esculap Rock festival of medical blues and rock bands. Guests will also visit Olsztyn Castle, the Warmia-Mazury Philharmonic Hall and the Olsztyn Planetarium.
