- We have all been concerned for months about the teaching conditions for future doctors and dentists. This is a field that requires the highest competence, and the opening of medical faculties at universities unprepared for this creates the misleading impression that one can become a doctor without having the required qualifications. In fact, these qualifications can only be certified by reputable universities, as confirmed by our colleagues from the European Association of Young Do ctors, who supported our position," comments Pawel Doczekalski, chairman of the Young Doctors Committee of the Supreme Medical Council.

"Of serious concern is the recent sharp increase in the number of colleges, especially non-university colleges, which have been granted the authority to offer medical studies. (...) The training of physicians is not only the improvement of professional competence; it requires the integration of scientific skills, framed in a broader humanistic context. Special emphasis should be placed on ethical considerations, which can best be achieved in a university environment. (...) Recent changes in the planning of medical personnel and in the planning of accreditation of non-university universities in Poland were introduced without consultation with the medical community. Decisions by the Ministers of Health and Education and Science over the past eight years have resulted in an increase in the number of universities authorized to provide medical studies from 12 to 39. (...) Such changes could inevitably weaken the level of knowledge and preparation of graduates to provide quality patient care, potentially jeopardizing patient safety and the overall quality of health services, EJD argues in its position paper.

The association sent its position to the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, among others.

The European Junior Doctors Association strives for high-quality postgraduate training programs, combats professional burnout, and works to develop and disseminate digital solutions in healthcare systems across the continent.
