Maintaining professional independence, fighting for respect for employment norms, health leave and creating a channel of communication. These are the goals of Mariola Lodzinska, who is about to begin her term as president of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives. She will replace the previous chairwoman, Zofia Malas, in the post.

According to Mariola Lodzinska, the priorities she set for herself when running for the professional self-government are in line with those set by the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives. Among the goals that are destined for realization in the near term, Mariola Lodzinska counts, first of all, maintaining the professional independence of nurses and midwives, individual and group practices and nursing entities that separately contract services with the National Health Fund, if only as part of the coordinated care being implemented.

Another priority is to fight for the respect of employment standards for nurses and midwives.

- Although we have a regulation on standards, unfortunately they are not respected and required or controlled by the payer. In my opinion, a very important long-term challenge is also the introduction of health leave," says the president of the NRPiP.

Mariola Lodzinska also talks about the need to improve communication between the professional government and the profession.

- A separate plan of action should be to create a channel of communication and information exchange between the NRPiP and nurses. The idea is that everyone should have the right, for example, to get acquainted with the act that will be amended, so that every person practicing in the profession has a real influence on the changes and can actively join the work of the self-government," the new president points out.

Elections to the professional self-government were held at the 8th National Congress of Nurses and Midwives. Mariola Lodzinska's counter-candidate was Kamila Gólcz. The outgoing vice-president of the NRPiP was voted for by 284 delegates, while the representative of the Regional Chamber of Nurses and Midwives in Bydgoszcz was voted for by 85 people. The outgoing president, Zofia Malas, due to the coronavirus pandemic, served her term for a record seven years.
