Doctors from the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration in Warsaw performed the first kidney transplant in Poland using the Da Vinci robot. Until now, the device has been used in living donor kidney donation operations.

The operation was performed by a team of doctors led by prof. Mark Durlik. The organ for transplantation was obtained from the recipient's wife. The donor will be able to leave the hospital soon.

"Live donation is still a topic in Poland that unnecessarily raises a lot of anxiety among patients and their families, but stories like this prove that the procedure performed under the supervision of a qualified team can give the whole family a chance for a new life", we read on the CSK website Ministry of Interior and Administration.

The report "Robotic surgery in Poland" shows that operations with the use of the Da Vinci robot are performed in Poland by about 20 centers. Last year, about 2.5 thousand were to be performed. treatments using this technology. Most of them were procedures not reimbursed by the National Health Fund.
