Today in Poland, people aged 50+, of which there are already 14.3 million, account for 46% of the adult population (18+) and 38% of the total population. In turn, the number of elderly people, i.e. those over 60, exceeds that of children and young people by more than 2.5 million.
With such an age structure in our society, why are 50+ people excluded from the labor market and the so-called commercial group, which is targeted by advertisements for products and services, ends at 50?
The creators of this year's Senior Economy Congress decided to confront ageism (age discrimination) in the labor market and the organization's responsibility to include older consumers.
Special guest at the congress will be Bradley Schurman from the United States, who will talk about how societies around the world are coping with the demographic transition.
"When 25% of our population is already 60 years old and older, and in 27 years the elderly population will reach 40% of our country's population, we should already be responding to this change in a decisive way. Moreover, as a result of the collision of two megatrends - the historic demographic shift and the technological revolution - new solutions, new products and services are emerging. The consumer market needs to be recalibrated to the needs of an increasingly older customer and the labor market needs to be more friendly to older workers. Social responsibility issues in the area of age discrimination are not insignificant. We will also talk a lot about this during the congress." - says Marzena Rudnicka, president of the National Institute of Senior Economy.
